A public meeting to discuss the status of a woman’s right to choose in Northern Ireland and the Republic, was held in Belfast by the Workers’ Party on 25th February.
The event was addressed by Gemma Weir, Workers’ Party representative for North Belfast, and Mary Diskin, Trade Union Campaign to Repeal the 8th Amendment. The common message concerning both jurisdictions was that a woman’s right to choose must be ‘free, safe, legal and accessible’.
The speakers also emphasised the class nature of abortion rights and the differences for those who can afford to travel abroad and avail of services and those who can’t.
