Raymond ‘mackers’ McNally, who passed away in February 2018, became involved in progressive political activism in the late 1960s.
He stood against the tide of sectarianism which threatened to engulf his native Lurgan, County Armagh, during the 1970s and 1980s. During this period, he worked closely with fellow socialist-republican leaders such as Malachy McGurran and Tom French.
He was a pivotal figure in organising Workers’ Party election campaigns in his local area and members of the party provided a guard of honour at his funeral.
